Reflections

On July 5,1931, Sally Fields White, was the first of five children born to the late Eugene and Mary Agnes Love Fields in Caswell County North Carolina.  The family moved to Virginia in 1939 when she was a child.  On Sunday, March 3, 2024, Sally peacefully departed this life while at home surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Sally’s education began in the two-room Bailey’s School that was located in Baileys Crossroads, Virginia.  She then attended Manassas Industrial School for Colored Youth in Manassas, Virginia.

Sally was married to Michael Angelo White on January 9, 1951.  Together they had two children, Michael Angelo White, Jr. and Mirenda Vindetta White.

Sally worked many different jobs but the ones she enjoyed the most was being director over the Teen Center that was heard in Lillian Carey Elementary School in the 1960’s and driving school bus for Fairfax County, for many years.

Sally joined Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church on May 15, 1952.  She was a member of the Golden Gems, the Pinkett-Sheppard Memorial Club and the Homeless Ministry.  She joined the Ushers Ministry in 1966 and served faithfully until 2016.  She was honored as Usher Emeritus on June 7, 2008.  She drove the church van for many years and assisted with the Girl Scout Troop and many Vacation Bible School sessions.  She supported the Hospitality Ministry by serving for repasts and other occasions.  Since the church was closed due to COVID-19, she enjoys attending the Wednesday Noon Day Bible Study and Sunday Church services virtually.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents Eugene and Mary A. L. Fields; her husband Michael A. White, Sr.; her son Michael A. White, Jr.; her daughter-in-law Juanita C. White; her brothers James A. Fields and Joseph Fields; her half-brother Eugene R. Fields; her half-sister Debra Fields and her stepsister Emma B. Ruffner.

Her memory will be cherished by her loving daughter Mirenda V. White-Hall; grand-daughter Angela M. Hall; great-granddaughter Asunta J. V. Hall-Johnson (Jaleel); great-great-granddaughter Winter V. Johnson; brother Charles L. Fields (Paula); sister Katie E. Fields-Smith (Robert); half-sister Linda Saifi; stepsisters Harrieta Fields and Edwina Fields; sister-in-law Gloria Fields.

Many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends have their special memories of Sally.  Especially her first cousin Margaret Jones who had a special place in her heart.
