Obituary of Tonya Lee Thompson
Tonya, who we affectionately called "Tomcat" (a nickname given to her by her Granddad Eddie Spriggs), was born July 31, 1960, in Washington, DC to Will and Joann Thompson. She was the first born of four children: twin sister Sonya Bailey, Will Jr., and Mark. She grew up in the Halls Hill/Highview Park neighborhood in Arlington, VA, and attended Calloway United Methodist Church as a child. She later attended other churches as an adult and received the holy spirit in April 1999.
Tonya was a kind-hearted person and friendly to everyone she met. She was someone who went the extra mile to help others and was determined, smart, and hardworking. Tonya loved to sing, dance, and play music. She was a self-taught musician who played the piano, guitar, and drums.
Tonya had a thirst for knowledge, and along with teaching herself how to play instruments, she taught herself how to speak Spanish. She was currently working on learning French.
Tonya had a strong love for architectural design and went to school to become an architect. She designed the blueprints for several homes in the Halls Hill/Highview Park neighborhood, and the Metropolitan area. She also designed her family's home, all additional rooms, and designed and built her beloved swimming pool in the backyard.
[Poem] Tonya dear, oh so sweet you left us in your sleep. We do not know when, but God was right there by your side. We know you did your best and could not have done any better. So, sleep on daughter and take your rest, for we love you, but God loves you best.
Tonya leaves to cherish fond memories: her mom and dad, Will and Joann Thompson; her twin sister, Sonya Bailey; her two brothers, Will Jr. and Mark Thompson; her three nephews, Kenneth Bailey, Kevin Bailey, and Kyle Bailey; her niece, Diamond Kilpatrick; her great-nephew, Kamron Bailey; her four great-nieces, Taniyah Speights, Salene Bailey, Sky Bailey, and Symphony Bailey; her aunt, Bernice Sherman, and a host of other relatives and friends.
