Jimmy was one of the greatest people I have ever known. I met him when I was probably 8 or 9 years old, he was my Dads best friend and probably the only person who he ever looked up to and never let him down. They did countless jobs together on weekends and all summer long. My dad was very difficult to deal with when I was growing up so whenever we were going to jobs where I had the option to ride with my dad or ride with Jimmy, I always rode with Jimmy. He was the only person who I ever saw who could work as hard or harder than my dad and the biggest thing about Jimmy was that no matter what issues came up on a job, he was always in a good mood and always could come up with a solution. There are very few people that pull more than their weight and never complain, Jimmy was the king of never complaining and always getting it done, no matter what. He had told me bits of his past, growing up in Gum Springs as a child and looking outside at night from the cracks in his walls in the winter and being cold and he said that he told himself he was not going to live like that and he would work hard so that he would be in that position long. As everyone knows, he is probably one of the greatest success stories ever and he brought everyone who listened to him with him. I have so many great memories of him, it would take days to write them all down. My life would not be the same if it wasn’t for having spent the time I was fortunate enough to have spent with him. I think of him regularly whenever I am having a tough time on a project , I think of how cool and collected he always was no matter what the day brought. The world has definitely lost one of the greatest men ever but Heaven has gained one.

Jimmy Hyman was my Dad’s best friend as they had worked together in Fairfax County Public Schools for many many years. When I was little I loved to go to school with my Dad. I loved “working” in the office, meeting the students, and having lunch in the cafeteria…but my absolute favorite part about going there was seeing Jimmy! He had such a light about him, his joy and humor were contagious. I could see why my Dad thought the world of him. Growing up I loved hearing my Dad’s stories about work and how he and Jimmy got through some of the best and some of the hardest times together all those years. When I got older I had the honor to call him a dear friend of mine as well and I cherish our phone calls and Christmas cards. From the first time I met him to the last time I talked to him a few months back Jimmy was ever thoughtful, kind, and had such an incredible soul that I always felt good after talking with him. I’m grateful to have known you, Jimmy. I learned a lot about how to take challenges in life and handle them in stride and with such grace because I watched you persevere no matter what life threw at you and you encouraged me to do the same. You are one in a million and I will miss you!
Love,
Caitlin Kelly Daidone

Words can’t describe what a beautiful human being I have been blessed to call my friend. His shining eyes, his loving spirit, his care for those in need, gave you a glimpse into the soul that God has shared with all of us. A part of my life is missing now but never forgotten.
He loved his family deeply and Toni was his rock as he used to always tell me. My love goes out to all of you and know that Jimmy lived a life worth living.
He deeply touched many in the Fairfax County School System which he faithfully served for so many years. From administrators, to school staff to teachers and most importantly the students that he loved, mentored, and taught at Edison High School and the Earl L. Pulley Center. They were so fortunate to be in his presence.
I will miss our little group of Rick, Justin, and Jimmy get-togethers where we would hold memories of laughter, tough times, and successes. What wonderful times they were.
I will miss our phone conversations where we shared our lives. Jimmy never complained about his health and always had a positive spin on life. What a gift he was to me and kept me on the bright side of life. He had so many friends that he called his posse who have departed, whom he deeply missed. Well Jimmy, you are with them now. God’s speed. Tom Hooty Hoot Kelly
