Obituary of Tonnette Godwin

Tonnette Godwin departed this life on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at MEDStar Georgetown University Hospital. She was born to the late Doretha G. Hamblin and Odell Godwin, adopted by the late Alberdie G. Wilkins of Suffolk, VA. Tonnette attend public school in Suffolk and Hampton, VA and graduated from Hampton High School. She attended and graduated from Prince Georges Community College where she received an Associate Degree in Information Technology.
Tonnette accepted the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the early 1990’s. She was a dedicated member of Mt. Ennon Baptist Church for many years.
Tonnette relocated to Washington, DC in early 1980. She was employed at Pinkerton Services as a computer consultant, and Pyramid Systems as a system analysis contracted with US Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Tonnette was member of Sisters From the Heart, a breast cancer support group where she was instrumental in organizing an annual breakfast event. She had many hobbies and interests which included cooking, interior designing/restoring used furniture, sewing, traveling and socializing with family and friends.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved son Brandon Godwin (Ron) of Alexandria, VA; Six sisters Joan G. Nurse (Charles), Mary Young (Lamar) of Upper Marlboro, MD; Delores Jean Haynesworth (Ronald), of Landover, MD; Lillian Barnes (Alton), Roberta Lee (Raymond) of Hampton, VA; and Valarie Powell of Suffolk, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.
Tonnette was a true giver from the heart. She will be missed by all who were blessed to know her.
