Obituary of Virgilia Bernette Walker
Virgilia Walker, affectionately known as “Jill”, was the eldest of three children born to the late John “Bobby” and Lorraine Johnson on August 23rd, 1959 in Huntington Station, New York. She was educated in the public school systems of Huntington, was a graduate of Walt Whitman High School, and after high school she earned a nursing degree. It was during that time she met and married Darryl H. Washington, Sr. From that union they were blessed with two sons, Darryl II, and Lawrence.
During their union they traveled the world and settled in South Carolina to raise their two children. While in South Carolina she was employed by the University of South Carolina, as well as served as the Secretary for Mt. Moriah Baptist Church where she was a faithful member; with her greatest accomplishment being a mother and a devoted wife. It was in 2004, after the untimely passing of her husband that she relocated to Maryland. After a world wind courtship she met and married Malcom Walker to whom she remained married until her heavenly transition. During her life she found joy in traveling, spending time with her family, trading recipes and hoped to complete her cookbook.
To cherish her memory and everlasting love are: her loving husband, Malcolm Walker of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, mother Lorraine Johnson of St. Mountain, Georgia, two sons, Darryl II (Tamara) Washington, and Lawrence Washington. Two granddaughters Daria Washington and Dejah Washington. One grandson Noah Washington, all of Lugoff, South Carolina. Two brothers John (Paula) Johnson and Peter (Carla) Johnson both of St. Mountain, Georgia. Along with a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
