Obituary of Alice Ada Jefferson
Alice Ada Jefferson, the wife of Gilbert Mack Jefferson, departed this life on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at her home in Columbia, Maryland. She was born April 23, 1932, the daughter of the late William, Sr and Elizabeth Burton.
She was educated in the Richmond Public Schools system. She graduated from Armstrong High School in 1949. She went on to receive her RN nursing degree from Hampton University in Hampton, VA in 1953. She was a nurse at John’s Hopkins Hospital for 30 years.
On January 15, 1961, she married Gilbert Jefferson. They were married for 60 years. They raised two sons, Eric and Carl and one daughter, Antoinette.
She accepted Christ as her personal savior and attended church in Richmond, Virginia. She was an active member of her church, South Columbia Baptist Church in Columbia, MD, until her health failed. She loved the Lord and loved serving the Lord by working in the children’s ministry, leading bible study groups and was a part of the Sunday School class for senior women. She was a true prayer warrior.
Alice had a passion for serving and helping others. She was a warm, godly, kind and compassionate woman who everyone couldn’t help but love. She loved reading and studying her bible, taking care of her flowers, shopping and spending time with her family. Her pleasant personality was contagious to everyone she met. She left a lasting impression on everyone she came in contact with throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her father William Burton, Sr and her mother Elizabeth Burton.

She leaves to cherish in her memory, her husband, Gilbert Jefferson of Columbia, Maryland; two sons, Eric Jefferson (Wanda) of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Carl Jefferson (Angela) of Suitland, Maryland; one daughter, Antoinette Murray (Joseph, Jr) of Columbia, Maryland; two brothers, Philip Burton of Patterson, New Jersey and William Burton, Jr (Geraldine) of Richmond, Virginia; twelve grandchildren, Eric Jr, Ericka, Tyrell, Joshua, Taylor, Kristen, Krislyn, Kristina, Michael, Isaac, Cameron, and Brittney; fourteen great-grandchildren; a host other devoted relatives and friends. Alice was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all.
