Obituary

Yvonne Augustin Williams transitioned from labor to reward peacefully Sunday November 19th , 2023.

Yvonne is known for her cooking, sewing and most notably her gardening. Everywhere she lived she beautified the area with a spectacular and colorful garden. People she did not know would stop by to commend her on her beautiful garden, she made lots of friends that way. She also had a vegetable garden and shared her produce with her family, church family and her friends at the senior center.

Yvonne’s family and friends always looked forward to her many culinary dishes. Including, Bake and Salt Fish, Curry Goat, Roti and Peas and Rice. Black Cake and Sweetbread were the favorite Christmas deserts. No one went home hungry from Yvonne’s table.

Traveling was another thing she enjoyed, visiting countries such as Mexico, Germany, Italy, England, France, Holland and many islands in the Caribbean.

While living in Trinidad, she worked as a telephone operator for TELCO. Yvonne also worked as a seamstress sawing clothes for a Department Store.

Yvonne was born October 4th , 1934 on the beautiful island of Trinidad and Tobago to Gladys Silverton and Joseph Augustin. Her siblings were, Julie, Josephine, Andrew, Elaine and Rupert (lovingly known as Ernest), who have all preceded her in death.

Yvonne was married to Edward Williams (deceased) , with no children from this union.

She leaves to cherish her legacy in loving memories her three children Horace Augustin (wife-Barbara Augustin), Allison Augustin and Cathy Agustin (husband-Bernard A. Carpenter).

Yvonne loved being the grandmother to her six grandchildren Alexis A. Ready (husband-Jason Ready), Anise Augustin, Paul T. Augustin, Alystair J. Augustin, Aaron B A Carpenter, and Andrew D A Carpenter. One great grandson Christian Ready.

Yvonne enjoyed her time with her home protector miniature Doberman “Dusty”, she enjoyed spending time watching him run around and playing in the yard.

Yvonne enjoyed spending time with her oldest and dearest friend Lorna Ryan, they shared countless life experiences and memories together. After moving to Charlotte, Yvonne was blessed to have as a very good friend Karleen Shay, they checked in on each other daily; Janine Woods, her walking partner, was always there to offer good advice and Myrtis Robertson who lovingly referred to her as “Mommie”.

When Yvonne moved to America, she worked as a nurse’s assistant at Mt. Eden General Hospital in New York and later at the Jewish rehabilitation center in Jersey City.

After moving to Charlotte, NC in Dec 2000 she was an active member of Lighthouse Baptist church, where on most Sunday’s she would sing in the choir. During the holiday season while visiting her daughter in Virginia she would attend Calloway UMC.

Yvonne loved her Soca music and anytime she heard one of her favorites she would jump up and dance especially if Horace was in the room.

She will be GREATLY missed.
